GRASSROOTS ECO-SOCIAL INNOVATIONS DRIVING INCLUSIVE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The paper discusses research results on waste governance and circular economy, conducted with picker cooperatives in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil. Two cases have been selected, from a pool 21 organizations, to video document their grassroots eco-social innovations that improved local management lives cooperative members. videos support knowledge sharing key actors economy. Social innovation theory focuses livelihood opportunities beyond formal labour market, pursuing social inclusion by creating meaningful work for individuals who were considered left out vulnerable situations. Transitioning sustainability necessarily goes socio-technical but rather integrates perspectives. After first introducing concept describes empirical frame presents two where organized pickers successful operationalizing address economy contribute transitions. Key findings highlighted are governance, long-term partnership building, productivity increased income.
